Chillingham

Just south of the Natural Bridge, Chillingham is located on the drive from Murwillumbah to the Numinbah Valley. Enjoy a break and a cuppa in the grounds of the general store.

Chillingham, the first of the Volcano Villages, lies nestled inside the erosion caldera of the Mt Warning Shield Volcano. Follow Tourist Drive 36 as it winds its way along the tree-lined Rous River through subtropical and ancient Gondwanan rainforest clinging to rhyolite rocks from the 240 million year old Chillingham Volcanics. Learn about plants, trees, wildlife and insects, rare or endemic to this area in the Caldera Herbarium.

Follow the historic walk from the Bushtucker Gardens, Chillingham Store and Hall, following the river along Beantree Walk past the Pioneer Wall, the Old Butcher Shop, the Jack Connelly and Johnny Brims Park, the Rous River Bridge, the Flute Workshop, Preschool and School and chat to local artists, craftspeople and residents about this natural village.
