Our founder, Frances Patrick Smith, started a tradition which has continued for five generations.

In 1876, at the age of 25, Frances Patrick Smith (known as Paddy) opted not to follow in his father’s footsteps as a cedar getter but instead went out and began his very own Auctioneering business. 

Paddy built the business from scratch and offered an auctioneering service to the farmers around the valley – auctioneering livestock at regular clearance sales held in and around Murwillumbah. 

The business flourished and diversified to incorporate Real Estate Sales and Good and Chattels Auctions. 

In the earlier years P Smith and Son was predominately know for the Auctioneers, back in the day when the Tweed Valley had approx. 600 Dairy farms, huge cattle numbers meant very successful fortnightly cattle sales held at the original sale yards in Brisbane Street alongside the Regent Cinema. 

The current licensee, Paul Leslight whose three young sons are direct descendants, along with his dedicated team continues to provide a Real Estate Service second to none. 

The office has continued to go from strength to strength in providing the people of Murwillumbah and surrounding villages, personal and professional Real Estate service. 

With over 146 years of trading in the same family name, a wealth of regional insight and knowledge has been passed down through the generations.
